The Inglewood Jets defeated the Irvine Chargers, 26-18. Defensive tackle A.J. Knight started the game with a stop in the backfield. But just a few plays later the Jets scored on an end around to take the early 6-0 lead on a 50 yard touchdown run.
On offense for the Chargers, Sal Aguilar Jr. picked up tough yards and a couple of first downs with blocking help from Stephon Robins.
Tough running between the tackles set up Kezie Okpala, to start the second quarter, around left end for 25 yards thanks to great blocking from Kyle Adams, Elijah Collier, Karac Tindle and Greg Geel. Two plays later Okpala finished off the drive with a 3-yard run around right end for the touchdown to tie the score 6-6.
Then it was up to the defense, linebacker Eli Tita and lineman Luke Coleman plugged up the middle while cornerback Towns King broke up two passes in the secondary. Matt Weyand helped make a key tackle as time ran out in the quarter keeping the Jets out of the end zone again.
During the second quarter, the Jets scored twice and took a 20-6 halftime lead.
The Chargers began the third quarter on offense, and picked up a first down thanks to a seal block by JayDee DeSilva. A fumbled handoff stopped the drive deep in Jets territory. With help from Michael Carbone and tackles by Rian Fields, the Charger defense held. Braden Hatt and John Lavigne made consecutive tackles for losses, bringing up fourth and 14.
Inglewood was looking for the big play on an end around, but Aguilar stayed home to make another stop in the Jets backfield turning the ball back over to the Chargers. Moments later the chargers would be facing their own fourth down conversion. This time the offensive line John Lavigne and Matthew Hutnyan won the battle up front helping Aguilar pick up the two yards needed for the first down.
Starting the fourth quarter down 20-6, the Chargers went to the air. Quarterback Justin Doron found Matt Weyand to set up first and goal at the 8-yard line. On third and goal Doron hit Hatt for the touchdown making the score 20-12. Another big play from the defense kept the Chargers close, Kyle Adams stood up a Jets running back giving Hatt the chance to strip the ball and the Chargers took over again.
The Chargers pulled out all the stops with a halfback pass from Wesley Roebuck found Okpala behind the defense good for 15 yards.
Kyle Adams sacked the Jets Quarterback, but on fourth and 11, the Jets offense extended the lead 26-12 but the Chargers wouldn't roll over. On first down, then Okpala faked the reverse to Roebuck and scampered 69 yards for the final score of the game making it 26-18.
